A 62-year-old Longview man died Saturday on hunting trip, according to the Cowlitz County Sheriff’s Office.

Jerry Ellis’ wife called police Saturday evening after he did not return home. Deputies said she was concerned for his health because of recent heart complications.

Family, friends and police searched for several hours Saturday night but weren’t able to find him or his vehicle.

Two hunters found his truck and later found Ellis dead Sunday morning on Weyerhaeuser land about 15 miles from Headquarters Road, according to the Cowlitz County Sheriff’s Office.

Police said there was no sign of foul play. A coroner’s investigation into Ellis’ cause of death is ongoing.

Although very sad, this is EXACTLY the way I would like to leave this Earth: doing something I LOVE, like hunting or fishing or just being with my loving family. Go in Peace, Mr. Ellis. Heaven is full of monster-sized bucks, 40 pound Chinook and more low-flying ducks than you could believe!!
