Castle Rock’s Mount St. Helens Visitor Center is looking for volunteers and an intern to help maintain the center and grounds this summer.
Volunteers available for at least four hours a week are needed to help greet visitors, share information about the Mount St. Helens area, and assist in maintaining the grounds of the visitor center from mid-May through October.
The Visitor Center is also offering an unpaid internship from June 9 through September 1. (Start and end dates are flexible.) The position is for 24-32 hours a week and applicants must have recently graduated from or currently be enrolled in natural resource sciences, geology, ecology, history, or a related field. They must also have their own transportation.
The intern will work with staff to inform visitors about the local area and the history, geology, and ecology of the Mount St. Helens area. The intern will also research and develop a family-friendly evening program for a nearby park and may assist with guided walks on the wetland boardwalk trail.
Application deadlines for both the volunteer and internship opportunities close May 4. Applications can be submitted online at Silver.Lake@parks.wa.gov or in person at the Visitor Center, located at 3029 Spirit Lake Highway in Castle Rock. Selected applicants will be subject to a Federal background check.
For internship applications, include a resume and cover letter with “Summer 2018 Internship” as the email subject line.
