An unidentified adult male died after he was struck by a BNSF Railway freight train in Kelso Monday morning, according to Kelso police.
Police Captain Darr Kirk said the male was trespassing on the BNSF tracks near the 300 block of North First Avenue. He was hit at 5:30 a.m. and pronounced dead at the scene by the Cowlitz County coroner.
Coroner Tim Davidson said identifying the victim might take some time.
BNSF spokesman Gus Melonas said this is the 13th person in the state of Washington who has died from a train collision after trespassing on BNSF rails. Two other people were killed in a designated crossing area on top of the other 13 fatalities.
