A 28-year-old Longview man has been sentenced to 14 years in prison for a slashing a 50-year-old transient’s throat in the Highlands areas last September.

David Allen Holmes pleaded guilty to second-degree murder in Cowlitz County Superior Court last month.

Authorities said Holmes used a large, military-style knife to cut the throat of Kevin Thomas Watts, 50, who had been living in Volkswagen van in the Highlands.

Watts was killed during a “dispute,” police said, but was unclear what the men may have been arguing about.

Kevin Watts was my step-brother. He had his issues, but in no way had this coming. But because he was homeless, his life doesn't matter to the courts, and his murderer gets 14 years. That's "justice" in this country.
