The City of Kalama will host a public hearing on fees associated with 8-inch water meters and high-strength wastewater flows at Wednesday night’s city council meeting. The charges would apply to commercial customers, not residential homes.
The city has received a request from an industrial customer to install a new 8-inch water meter, for which base rates do not yet exist.
The large meter would also increase costs to treat high-strength wastewater flows. The city has therefore asked engineers to recommend surcharges to offset additional wastewater treatment.
The hearing will address both the city's water and sewer codes. Afterwards, the council will vote on two related ordinances.
