A Kalama homeowner wrestled with a would-be burglar in the streets Tuesday afternoon before police arrested the suspect minutes later, according to the Kalama Police Department.
A witness called police shortly after 1 p.m. Tuesday after seeing someone break into a shed at a home in the 300 block of China Garden Road. The witness called the homeowner, who was at a local restaurant. The owner returned and found burglar leaving with his nailer and power saw, according to Kalama Police Chief Randall Gibson.
The two tangled on the ground for a few minutes before the burglar dropped the power tools and fled, according to Gibson.
Police found up the suspect a couple blocks away from the home. Neither the homeowner nor the suspect was injured in the altercation.
Michael Clifford Tompson, 44, of Columbia City, Ore., was booked at the Cowlitz County Jail on suspicion of second-degree burglary.
