Kalama City Council members will discuss funding options for the new police station in more detail during Wednesday's meeting, which starts at 7 p.m at City Hall.
City staff presented funding recommendations at a Feb. 27 workshop. Staff suggested that the city pursue three financing options:
• Use revenue from the public safety sales tax approved November 2016
• Adopt a 5-percent utility tax increase on water, sewer and garbage
• Pay off a street loan and reallocate fuel tax revenues to free up money in the general fund.
If the council chooses to follow the recommendation, it will direct city staff to prepare the necessary documents and ordinances for creating a fund and implementing the new revenue sources. Public hearings would first need to be held to increase the utility tax rate and vehicle tab fee.
