Longview police on Monday morning arrested two juveniles for allegedly stealing a vehicle from Salem, Ore.
According to Sgt. Chris Blanchard, a bystander noticed someone in a dark Jeep Cherokee dump a bunch of items on the ground at around 10 a.m. Based on information printed on the items, the bystander called the owner of the vehicle, a Salem resident, who said his car had been stolen that morning.
Blanchard said police located the Jeep at the Union 76 gas station on Oregon Way. The car had three occupants, with one pumping gas when officers arrived. Two of the juvenile suspects fled from the vehicle.
One suspect, a 17-year-old from Salem, was arrested in the 400 block of 16th Avenue after a brief foot pursuit. The second, a 16-year-old whose hometown was unavailable, was arrested in the 1500 block of Baltimore Street. Both were arrested at around 11:30 a.m. The third juvenile was detained but eventually released as officers realized he was likely not involved in the vehicle theft, Blanchard said.
