A group of firefighters cycling down the West Coast to benefit veterans made a stop in Cowlitz County last weekend. The Washington state firefighters will spend the next month riding south to raise money to put wounded veterans in specially-adapted smart homes.

The firefighters began their Seattle-to-Los Angeles journey on Friday, and are raising money for the Gary Sinise Foundation's R.I.S.E. (Restoring Independence Supporting Empowerment) program, that builds the smart homes, according to Cowlitz 2 Fire and Rescue.

On Saturday, the cyclists made a stop at The Moose Lodge in Longview and spent the night at Cowlitz 2's headquarters station in Kelso. On Sunday, the riders stopped in Vancouver.

More information about the Gary Sinise Foundation and the smart homes can be found at www.garysinisefoundation.org/programs/rise.
