A suspicious fire damaged a Kelso mobile home Sunday night, according to Cowlitz 2 Fire & Rescue.
Kelso police and firefighters were dispatched to the mobile home, located in the 1000 block of Allen Street behind a Taco Bell, at around 11:08 p.m. When they arrived, the back of the mobile home was on fire.
Cowlitz 2 put out the fire, which likely started in a mattress, Cowlitz 2 investigator Darryl Arrera told police. Arrera added that there wasn't any "concrete evidence of arson."
A mobile home park resident told officers that a man and a woman, whom he guessed were transients, had been staying inside the unit during the past couple of weeks. However, he had not seen them in 16 hours and didn't believe they set the fire.
According to fire officials, crews put the fire out in less than 10 minutes but the single-wide mobile home suffered major fire damage to the rear third of the home and is considered a total loss.
