Even though he fell quite a bit short of his boast that he could chug an entire bottle of maple syrup during the talent competition, Jared Lafrance finished Monday night wearing the sash and crown of "Mr. Lumberjack 2011."
The event, a fundraiser disguised as a beauty pageant for boys, drew a vocal crowd to the R.A. Long High School auditorium and raised $1,548 for the Veterans of Foreign Wars to distribute to needy veterans in the area.
Sullivan Carter, also a senior at R.A. Long, had to be content with the smaller tiara given the runner-up. Junior Ryan Dahl led all seven contestants in money raised with $371.
Lafrance, who came on stage with a bottle of Mrs. Butterworth's syrup and a large bib, made several attempts at downing the contents before exiting the stage to applause.
