One part of the Maple Terrace Apartments will be burned Saturday as part of training exercise for the Longview Fire Department.

Maple Street will be closed in front of the buildings, located at 1810 Maple St., but access to the nearby Longview Public Library will be maintained.

Work starts at 8 a.m. and will last until late afternoon. During the live fire period, nearby residents may want to keep windows closed and air conditioners off to minimize smoke intake.

The second building will be burned Aug. 20.

The buildings are being removed as the site of a new parking lot for Lower Columbia College.
