Lower Columbia College’s Spring Concert Series celebrating the new bachelor’s degree partnership with Eastern Washington University is in full swing, with concerts on Friday and Saturday at the Rose Center for the Arts.
The Friday concert will feature the EWU Wind Ensemble, Jazz Ensemble and Pep Band. Saturday’s concert will have a totally different flavor, highlighting original compositions and new instruments performed by EWU music faculty and students. Both concerts begin at 7:30 p.m. and are in the Rose Center for the Arts Wollenberg Auditorium.
The Saturday concert will feature works by Dr. Jonathon Middleton, the department chair and professor of theory and composition at EWU. His symphonic works have been recorded by the Kiev and Czech orchestras. He’ll be joined Ben Luca Robertson, who teaches electro-acoustic composition and microtonal/non-Western tuning systems at EWU.
Local musicians, composers and music enthusiasts are invited to a pre-concert forum at 5:30 p.m. Saturday, where they will have an opportunity to interact with EWU’s music faculty and composition students. New instruments that will be part of the evening concert, including one that uses goblets and wine glasses with water, will be demonstrated
The concert series will conclude with a concert featuring an EWU woodwind trio at 7:30 p.m. May 25. At that concert, donations for Head Start are requested.
