Shirley Lethrud, 91, died Aug. 27, 2017, at home surrounded by family. She was born to Vern and Agnes Tow on July 24, 1926, in Evanston, Wyo., the second of seven children.
Shirley married Henry Lethrud in 1965, and they bought a home in La Center, Wash. After Henry retired they move to the beach where Hank could fish and Shirley could spend time with her grandchildren. Shirley and Hank were Arizona snowbirds.
She was preceded in death by Henry, her husband of 26 years, in 1991; a son, Gary Poole in 2015; two brothers, James and Jack; and three sisters, Betty, Marylou and Karen.
Shirley is survived by her youngest sister, Laurie Devine (David) in Washington; a son, Larry Pugh (Eloise) in Washington; four daughters, Sunday DeFrancisco (Mark) in Oregon, Linda Matthews in Washington, Sidney Starr (John) in Wisconsin, and Deborah Smith in Washington; and a daughter-in-law, Vicky Poole in Oregon. Shirley was blessed with 21 grandchildren, 51 great-grandchildren, and seven great-great-grandchildren.
She will be remembered for her sense of humor and quick wit.
A celebration of Shirley's life, including a potluck, is planned for 2 p.m. Sunday at The Stay and Beyond Inn and Suites, 800 Main St., in Elma, Wash.
