Aug. 15, 1952 — June 13, 2017
Roger Lyle Crawford passed peacefully in his home on June 13, 2017, after an extensive battle with cancer.
Roger married Susan Perkins on April 17, 1981. They had two children, a boy and a girl. Together, they built a home in Rainier, Ore. On their small farm they raised beef for their family and enjoyed gardening.
Roger was a Vietnam Veteran, serving in the Army from December 1971 until his honorable discharge in September 1973. Despite a motorcycle accident in 1973 resulting in paraplegia, Roger worked as an automotive mechanic for over 30 years. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars as well as the Paralyzed Veterans of America, and known for his kindness and perseverance. In his spare time, he enjoyed restoring vehicles and building cars to race with his son. He loved the outdoors, and cherished spending time with family and friends.
Roger is survived by his wife of 36 years, Susan Crawford; daughter Sarah Crawford of Vancouver; and son David Crawford, daughter-in-law Heather, and granddaughter Grace of Rainier.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Cecilia Crawford; as well as his younger brother, Marty Crawford.
A graveside memorial service will take place at 11 a.m. on July 8 at Hudson Cemetery, 75900 Larson Road in Rainier.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Wounded Warrior Project (woundedwarriorproject.org).
