Otis M. Dickerson was born in Muncie, Ind., on Sept. 25, 1933, to Carl and Beatrice (Cook) Dickerson. He was the second of 15 children.
On Feb. 2, 1952, he married the love of his life, Ruth “Eileen” Martzall in Winchester, Ind. In April of 1955 they packed up their year-old daughter, his grandmother, and two dogs and moved to Washington. Otis and his family moved to the Kelso-Longview area in 1963. He was a bus driver/mechanic at Ocean Beach Stage Lines before serving as lead mechanic for the Kelso School District. He retired in 1997.
Otis is survived by his wife, Eileen at home; five children, Terri Knutson (Bob) of Carson City, Nev., Cindy Chesnut (Tim), Greg Dickerson (Sheri), and Kelly Dickerson (Donnie), all of Longview, and Jeff Dickerson (Terry) of Everett; 10 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; three brothers; and five sisters.
Otis dearly loved his family and friends. He enjoyed fishing, gardening, road trips, and woodworking. He made and sent wood toys to children as far away as the Dominican Republic. He will be remembered as a loving man who was always willing to lend a hand and to serve.
