Myrtle Maybell Clark-Karney passed away in Kelso April 4, 2018. She was 90 years old and had lived in the local area since 1935.
Myrtle was born Dec. 5, 1927, in McKenzie County, Charbonneau, N.D., to Charles C. and Blanche (Reynolds) Bailey. The Bailey family moved west in 1935 and settled in Vancouver, Wash. In the summer of 1945 Myrtle moved to Kalama and, soon after, met Marshall L. Clark. They married in February 1946. Marshall and Myrtle resided in Woodland until the 1948 flood. They bought property in Kalama and built their home were Myrtle raised two daughters. Tragically, two young sons, Delbert H. and Odell M. Clark preceded Myrtle in death.
In 1965 Myrtle went to work for Ben & Son’s farm in Woodland until 1970. Thereafter she worked at Lamiglas in Woodland until retiring in 1980.
Myrtle enjoyed volunteering and helping others. She was active with the Kalama Helping Hand and Lower Columbia CAP. She crocheted afghans for local nursing home residents, enjoyed baking, sewing, beading, knitting, gardening, traveling, reading books, and above all helping people in need.
Marshall passed away Jan. 2, 2011, at a local adult care facility. Myrtle met Donald A. Karney of Kelso and soon remarried. They resided in Kelso until his passing in May 2017.
Myrtle is survived by her daughters, Charlotte Davenport and Roberta Raappana, both of Longview; two stepchildren, James Karney and Lisa Wonser; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
At her request, no service will be held. Arrangements are by Columbia Funeral Service.
