Kathleen ‘Claire’ Gaul
Kathleen Claire Gaul of Longview died peacefully at home Nov. 24, 2017, at age 95.
She was born Dec. 26, 1921, in Dow City, Iowa, to Linfred and Edith Ahart. She had a happy childhood growing up on a farm close to her many relatives. Upon graduation from high school Claire taught in rural schools in Iowa for four years.
In 1945 Claire married Francis Gaul in Charter Oak, Iowa. After a brief stay in California, the couple moved to Longview where they raised their six children. After Francis retired, they enjoyed many years of extensive travel in the United States and Mexico.
Claire’s greatest joys in life were her family, her friends, and her church. She was a member of St. Rose Catholic Church since 1946 and through the years served the church at various times as a religious education teacher, secretary to the Parish Council, member of the Altar Society, wedding hostess, and she was a charter member of St. Joseph’s Circle.
Claire is survived by her six children and their spouses, Mark “Mac” and Sally Gaul, Connie Jones, Donna Gaul, Kenneth “Butch” and Suzanne Gaul, Dennis and LoRetta Gaul, and Sharon and Russ Netter; 15 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and a sister. She was preceded in death by her husband, Francis; and a brother.
A rosary is planned for 10:30 a.m. and a funeral Mass for 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 6 at St. Rose Church. A reception will follow in the Parish Center. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Rose School.
