John Christian Rountree, 70, of Longview died Oct. 28, 2017, at the Hospice Care Center following a 10-year battle on dialysis, hoping for a transplant.
He was born July 26, 1947, in Longview, graduated from R.A. Long in 1965, and from Western Washington University. John served in the Navy, fished commercially in Alaska for 20 years, was a substitute teacher for the Longview School District and retired as a van driver for CAP. He loved to travel, visiting Australia and Asia, where he met his wife, Somboon in Thailand.
John is survived by his wife; his former wife and good friend, Diane Phillips; four children, Scott Rountree, Vickie Hernandez, Marie Rountree and Jimi Rountree; two sisters, Sandy Rountree and Sally Homer (Jerry); six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his parents, John R. and Mary F. (Pullen) Rountree; and a brother, James.
A celebration of John’s life, including a potluck, is planned from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 18 at the Kelso Senior Center, 106 NW 8th St. Private interment will take place at Longview Memorial Park with Father Bryan Ochs officiating.
