John Alfred Brooks went to be with his Lord on Oct. 4, 2017. He passed away at home.
He was born on April 15, 1931, to John and Dora Brooks in Boise, Idaho. After graduating from high school, he joined the Navy during the Korean War. Later he met and married Beulah Hathaway. He last worked for the Washington Department of Transportation as an engineer.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Beulah Brooks; six children, John Brooks (Sherry), Mark Brooks, Janice Barger (Bill), Daniel Brooks (Indrani), Carol Williams (Art) and Sue Johnson (Tracy); and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He enjoyed fishing, camping, traveling and spending time with family, especially taking his grandchildren to do fun things. He also spent time helping people from all walks of life, including those in jail.
A memorial service is planned for 2 p.m. Sunday at the Longview Church of the Nazarene.
