Jana L. Freiberger

Jana Freiberger passed away at home on Nov. 18, 2017, one day after her 60th birthday.

Jana was born in Carlsbad, N.M., to Dale and Billie Freiberger (Grantham). She grew up in the small resort town of White’s City, N.M., on the edge of Carlsbad Caverns National Park. At the age of 12 she moved with her parents to Sheridan, Wyo. Jana graduated from Sheridan High School and attended Montana State University in Bozeman, Mont., where she received a bachelor of science in chemical engineering.

Following college Jana worked for Procter & Gamble in Green Bay, Wis., where she held several positions in manufacturing management. She was part of an early group of female managers hired by Procter & Gamble, and that experience forged many lifelong friendships.

In 1984 she married Dennis Morgan, a co-worker. In 1990 Dennis and Jana were transferred to Grande Prairie, Alberta and in May of that year their daughter Erin was born. Jana began working a part time schedule, something she continued to do for the rest of her work life. Her focus became organizational development, and working to improve group and individual effectiveness became a lifelong commitment of Jana’s.

In 1993 Jana and Denny transferred to Longview. Jana worked for Weyerhaeuser and Norpac Paper in a variety of organizational development positions until she retired from Norpac in 2013.

Jana had a lifetime love of singing. She sang with a community choir in Green Bay and was a longtime member of the Columbia Choral Ensemble in Longview. Following her retirement Jana co-founded the Lower Columbia Threshold Choir—a group of women who sing in Hospice, hospitals, and homes to those on the threshold between life and death.

Jana was passionate about writing. While she never had a desire or intent to be published, she worked very hard at developing her writing skills, attending an annual Proprioceptive writing workshop at Hope Springs Institute in Ohio and participating in a monthly writing circle.

Jana loved the outdoors. She was especially drawn to wide-open vistas. The deserts of Utah and Arizona were favorite places of hers.

Jana is survived by her mother, Billie Freiberger; her husband, Dennis; her daughter, Erin Morgan; two stepchildren, Mat Morgan and Jessica Morgan-Lacy, and their children Miles, Parker, Desmond, Colin, and Mikaela Morgan, and Larry Lacy; two brothers, Brian and Brent Freiberger; and a sister-in-law, Ann Freiberger (Brian).

A memorial service is planned for 6 p.m. Jan. 17 at the McClelland Art Center in Longview.

Jana requested memorial contributions be made to the Ovarian Cancer Research Fund Alliance, 1101 14th Street NW, Suite 850, Washington, DC 20005.
