A Cowlitz County jury has awarded a Longview man and his wife a $536,075 judgment three years after he was injured in a traffic accident at the intersection of Washington Way and State Route 432.
Nicholas Branscom, then 29, was driving north through the intersection on a green light when his car was struck by an eastbound log truck driven by Wayne A. Gilliland, according to court records. The accident occurred April 15, 2004.
Branscom and his wife, Maggie, filed suit last year in Cowlitz County Superior Court against Gilliland's employer, Swaggart Enterprises of Ritter, Ore.
A four-day trial concluded May 3, and jurors deliberated for about two hours before awarding Nicholas Branscom $467,523 for his injuries and his wife $67,000 for loss of consortium. Miscellaneous court costs were also included in the judgment.
The Branscoms were represented by Longview attorneys Duane Crandall and Jamie Imboden. Vancouver attorney Christopher Rounds represented Swaggart Enterprises.
Efforts to interview Nicholas Branscom on Friday were unsuccessful.
