George and Bonita Pittenger

George and Bonita Pittenger

A family gathering will be held in honor of longtime Kelso residents George and Bonita Pittenger’s 65th wedding anniversary at the home of their daughter, Terri Selby. The Pittengers were married April 21, 1951, in Eureka, Calif., but the event will be a dual celebration held from noon to 5 p.m. July 9, George’s 90th birthday.

George and Bonita met in Castle Rock in 1948 when Bonita’s uncle, Bud Whittle, brought George home for a visit while on leave from the Navy. They have lived in Kelso for the past 60 years, where they raised three children, Eric Pittenger of Corvallis, Ore., and Terri Selby and Mitch Pittenger, both of Castle Rock. They have seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. George retired from Weyerhaeuser and has enjoyed gardening and hunting, while Bonita enjoys arts, crafts and sewing.
