a Central Pacific Coast Guard base, 1940s. The men were checking recreational equipment at remote shore stations and Coast
Guard manned combat vessels. Dempsey was best known for his
boxing career; he was World Heavyweight Champion from 1919 to
1926, and was known as “Kid Blackie” and “The Manassa Mauler.”
